Board of Directors

Valparaiso United FC's board of directors serve our organization by volunteering their leadership and time. Board members are elected by the membership at our annual general meeting each spring. 
Board meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month and are open to the public.

Susan Ludewig - President


Susan grew up mostly in the mid-west and graduated with a BSN from Loyola University Chicago in 1995. In 1996 she moved to Arizona to be closer to her family, as well as to avoid another freezing cold winter in Chicago!  After working for several years in Labor/Delivery and high risk antepartum, she attended graduate school at Arizona State University, and earned a Master’s degree in Science with a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner certification. She is also a certified diabetes educator, and currently works in private practice at Scottsdale Perinatal Associates, specializing in maternal fetal medicine.
Susan's son plays on the 02s team, while her older son is Valparaiso alum and used to play on 99s team. Susan has been with the Club for four years and has always helped out at different levels form being a team manager to the Vice President, and now finally our organization is lucky to have her serve as the President. Susan believe's in the Club's commitment to the community and the dedication of the coaches, and would like to see it continue to grow and provide opportunity to the kids who love this sport!


Jason Huguez - Vice President 

Jason is a third generation Phoenician spending most of his life in the West Valley. In 2010 he finished his Bachelors degree from ASU, and then earned his MBA from GCU in 2014. He has worked for a local credit union for the last 15 years.  

Currently, he has three children playing for the Club (02B, 04B, and 07G), all of them finishing their second year with the Club. In addition to being the Vice President of our Club, Jason currently serves as the team manager for the 02B and 04B , and served that role
at the  previous club for 3 years, as well as serving as a Team Manager Mentor for the club as well.


David Rau - Director of Registration 



David grew up on the East Coast and his career brought him to Phoenix in 2003. His family has been involved in Valley soccer since 2003 when David began coaching younger recreational teams which his son Nick played on. Nick has been playing competitive soccer for the past 9 years, and David currently co-manages 01B MT. 
David is a Director of Procurement and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Loyola College in Maryland, with leadership roles that span more than two decades in procurement, supply chain, and business transformation. Family activities encompass most of his time away from the office. He enjoys these activities with his wife and two children.


Stephanie Passaro - Director of Business Development 


Stephanie is an Arizona native and dedicated ASU Sun Devil. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Communication from Arizona State University in 2010, and has spent the last 7 years working in Human Resources for mid-to-large sized companies. Last year Stephanie left the corporate world to continue her education at ASU. 
She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in HR & Employment Law and will be graduating soon!
Currently, Stephanie works as an HR Specialist and Legal Clerk for a local law firm and does small business HR consulting on the side. Upon graduation, Stephanie hopes to continue growing her consulting services and further her education in the legal field.

Outside of work and school Stephanie enjoys spending time hiking, yoga and being with her family. Her two boys play for Valparaiso on the 01B MT and 04B teams and have participated in state, regional and national leagues. 


Alison Pandelakis - Secretary


Alison is a former competitive gymnast and coach. Alison graduated from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia with a BS in Commerce and concentrations in Management Information Systems and Marketing. She began her consulting career at KPMG Peat Marwick in Washington, DC with technology projects for the Securities Investor Protection Corporation and the American Federation of Teachers. In 1994 Alison and her husband, Michael, left KPMG to pursue self-employment. 
They moved to Phoenix 1995, where their company continues to write and implement software for blood banks nationwide. Alison has been a part of Valparaiso for 4 years and currently has players on the 00B 03B, and 06G teams.


Stephen Brown - Director of Operations

Dr. Brown is an Arizona native who has both played and coached soccer at a recreational level for more than 40 years.  He and his wife have 16 year old triplets, all of whom are Valparaiso alums. Professionally, Dr. Brown has been a practicing valley dentist for nearly 30 years.  His education is a product of Glendale Community College, Arizona State University, and the University of Southern California, graduating Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude and OKU respectively.  He also sits on additional Boards of Directors.

Alvaro Sande - Treasurer

Alvaro was born in Chile and moved to the US in 2001. He graduated  with a BBA from Adolfo Ibañez University in 1997 and then he earned his MBA from Babson College in 2003. After working in the Airline business for 5 years living in Miami and New York, he then moved to Arizona in 2007. Since then he has been is the COO of Sencorp, a real estate development company.
Alvaro's son is a goalkeeper playing for the 01 MT team. He joined the club 7 years ago and has never played for a different club. Alvaro joined
 the board 2 years ago as a treasurer. He is very passionate about the Club and assuring the long term financial stability of our organization.

Summer Soccer Camp

The VUFC 2011 Summer Soccer Camp provided an exceptional opportunity for boys and girls ages 6 though 19 to work on their soccer skills under the guidance of top international players and coaches. The camp, which was held at Phoenix Country Day School from June 25 through 29, consisted of five sessions of 3 hours each, packed with skills training – shooting, passing, dribbling, receiving, specialized goalkeeping sessions – and Futsal games. The Camp was conducted by our coaching staff as well as our guest coaches Nenad "Ziggy" Zigante (famed goalkeeper coach of the 1994 US Men's National Team, University of San Diego, San Diego State University, Cornell University and currently Carolina Railhawks, the current A-League leaders), Dario Pot (assistant coach of De Graafschap Football Club of the Dutch Eredivisie) as well as our guest women's college coaches. We would like to thank all the participants as well as our guest coaches who made the players' experience even more special! Thank you and see you at the next Valparaiso event!

2011-2012 Tryouts Concluded - 15 Competitive Teams Formed

On June 11, 2011 Valparaiso United Futbol Club completed tryouts for the upcoming 2011-2012 season. In only its third season of existence, Valparaiso United drew over 250 players to its tryouts and over 200 were eventually selected to play on teams within the Club. In the midst of this exponential growth, Valparaiso is pleased to announce the formation of the following teams: 2004 boys. 2003 boys, three 2001 boys teams;1999 boys,1998 boys,1997 boys; two 1995 boys teams; two 1994 boys teams, 2004 girls;1997 girls, 1995 girls.The coaches have notified all players who have been selected for a team. The Director of Coaching Sead Karaselimovic will be holding organizational team meetings with each team to provide information to the parents and players about the upcoming season and to address any families’ question. Sead will notify all teams of the date and time of their team meeting date over the next week, and all team meetings will be completed by July 17th. We want the Valparaiso families to be as fully informed as possible heading into the upcoming season so that they can plan accordingly. Hopefully our families are as excited as the coaching staff about what lies ahead for their child. Thank you to everyone who tried out for a team and believes that Valparaiso United is the best fit for their family. We value your confidence in us. Valparaiso Alum Marjani Hing-Glover returns to train for the summer

Valparaiso alum and current Stanford University Varsity Women's Soccer player Marjani Hing-Glover returns for the summer from a successful season with the Stanford Cardinal where for the second year in a row the team remained undefeated and ranked #1 before losing 1-0 in the finals of the NCAA championships. Hing-Glover scored 2 of her goals this season in NCAA playoff games against Santa Clara and Florida State, demonstrating why her teammates call her powerful shot the "Jani Rocket." She continues to train with Valparaiso through the summer in preparation for the 2011-2012 fall season and another shot at the NCAA Championship title.
